Voter registration data suggests a change election might be ahead

Cuyahoga County, holding the Cleveland metro area, has released voter registration information as the extended primary election season draws to a close. There is reason for Democrats to be excited about the data, but the full picture will not emerge until information about all 88 Ohio counties is finalized.

The primary was controversially extended by Governor DeWine on March 16th. That day, in response to COVID-19 contagion concerns raised by health experts, he delayed the Ohio March primary and issue vote. The move was controversial, and was quickly appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court. Ultimately they decided to delay the vote, though they overruled his determination of a specific date to hold the replacement primary.

The extended vote ends tomorrow, March 28th, with a mix of absentee, in-person, and mail-in votes to determine the outcomes of various races across Ohio. In-person voting continued in the days leading up to the original primary date, under provisions in Ohio allowing more options for early voting.

The data shared by David Pepper in a tweet earlier today suggests that a wave election could be coming.

Party affiliation suggests a strong move toward D’s … in Cuyahoga County.
